Anyone who lives, works, studies in, or is visiting Northern Ireland may become a member. A single membership card allows everyone to use the resources and services of any public library in Northern Ireland. All libraries provide free Internet access for library members, and access to an online catalogue of the holdings of the 5 Public Library Services in Northern Ireland. There are 28 public libraries with opening hours ranging from 18 to 55 hours per week. The service also operates a fleet of public mobile libraries for those people who live in other areas. Through the Direct Library Service, a specialist Mobile Library Service takes books direct to the homes of people unable to go to a library. The Local Studies Service of the North Eastern Education and Library Board is located in Ballymena Central Library. The role of this area wide service is to collect, record, organise and conserve all appropriate material about life in the NEELB area. The School Library Service, provides a service to 259 primary, 55 post primary and 11 special schools in the area, with 4 mobiles dedicated to the Schools Library Service. Mission Statement The North Eastern Education and Library Board Library Service seeks to enhance the quality of life and the leisure, educational, social and economic resources of the community, by meeting the reading and information needs of all NEELB residents.
