Will I have a chance to see the psychologist’s report?
As a rule, the Educational Psychology Service does not provide copies of reports on pre-schoolers to parents. The reason for this is that the assessment of pre-schoolers takes place over time and a comprehensive report is not normally available until shortly before the child is due to start school.
Psychologists send copies of all reports on pupils of school age to the school principal and to the parents.
Who gets to see the psychologist’s report?
Those persons with a legitimate interest in your child’s education will receive a copy of the report. Interested parties are normally those professionals currently helping to meet your child’s special needs. For example, the school doctor and health visitor will get copies if your child is a pre-schooler. The school’s principal will get a copy if your child is a pupil in school.
Your child’s school principal has a responsibility to ensure that only teachers who are involved in your child’s education see the report.
With the passage of time, the relevance of psychological reports to your child’s education tends to lessen though certain information may remain pertinent.
