Will the Board ensure the welfare and safety of pupils?
The Board is concerned at all times about the welfare and safety of pupils and students when travelling on Board, public or contract vehicles. Consequently, the Board will ensure that pupils are carried in accordance with Department of the Environment regulations and safety requirements.
 
How will the Board deal with contractors in relation to welfare safety of pupils?
The Board will work closely with its main contractors to ensure provision which is safe, legal and economic. Contractor’s drivers will be screened by referral to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Criminal Records Office to ensure that they are of good character and free of any serious offences. Contractor service delivery will be subject to ongoing performance monitoring.
 
What happens will a pupil with behavioural problems on Board vehices?
In cases where there is a behavioural problem on Board vehicles the Board reserves the right to withdraw transport assistance from individual pupils or groups until such times as the matter can be satisfactorily resolved. This action will be taken in line with Board procedures for dealing with behavioural problems. Similarly Translink (Ulsterbus / Citybus / NIR) reserve the right to withdraw sessional tickets from pupils. The Transport Officer will consult with the Translink District Manager / Principal / Parent before the return of the sessional ticket is sanctioned.
 
Will risks assessments be undertaken?
Risk assessments will be undertaken where health and safety concerns are involved.
