Extended Schools

What is an Extended School? 

The Extended School targets not only the pupils of statutory school age, but the ‘whole’ family, and wider community which it serves.

Key features of an Extended School
  

  • Community focussed

  • Learning before and after school 
  • Learning opportunities for all children 
  • Family/community support services/programmes

  • Working in partnership

  • Improved use of buildings and services 

In addition, a number of resources are attached to support schools in the development of extended services. These include: 

  • Budget Deployment Form– this must be used to detail projected expenditure and submitted together with your action plan. 

SERVICES & INFORMATION

The Education and Library Boards (ELBs) were dissolved on 31 March 2015. The Education Authority was established on 01 April 2015 and is now responsible for all of the operational functions previously carried out by the five ELBs in accordance with the Education Orders.
