Partnership 1: Gaelscoil an Chaistil, St Mary’s P.S Rathlin & Ballycastle Integrated P.S

These three schools in the Ballycastle area are coming together for the first time through the Primary Integrating Enriching Education Project. The schools are planning to work collaboratively through shared classes both during and after school. They are also creating opportunities for the staff of each school to work together through team teaching, shared planning time and connections via video conferencing facilities provided through C2K.

Gaelscoil an Chaistil and Ballycastle Integrated have worked together in the past but the involvement of St Mary’s in Rathlin is adding a new dimension to this partnership. The schools have planned a series of shared classes and activities as well as a residential on the island. They see the island as a living classroom that will provide a fabulous resource to enhance the children’s learning across the curriculum particularly in the area of the World Around Us.

The shared vision for the PIEE project is to see the staff work together, for the children to learn together and for all to form sustainable relationships which will enable them to follow their own path, rather than the one mapped out by traditions. It is hoped that this will ultimately add to community cohesion within the town.
