POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT: SCHOOL BASED INSET OPTION

Since 2003 (circular 2003/13) schools have a duty to establish an effective:

  • Positive Behaviour Policy

  • Anti-Bullying Policy (stand alone)

Since then schools also have a responsibility to:

  • Keep these policies under review

  • Ensure that consultation requirements are met

To enable schools successfully to review and embed these policies Behaviour Support seeks to meet individual school requirements by offering a range of School Based INSET options which, within the context of the revised curriculum, enable schools through positive behaviour management to promote and develop:

  • Positive Learning Environments

  • Listening Schools

Behaviour Support School Based INSET options are located within these two sections:

    1. Positive Learning Environments
    2. Listening Schools

Click on a link to the left, for an overview of each option.

SELECTING A BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT SCHOOL BASED INSET OPTION

A school may wish to select one or more INSET options from one specific group e.g. from Positive Learning Environments

Challenging Behaviours: Understanding & Responding  - all staff (Half Day)

Assessing & Managing Challenging Behaviours: Using a Risk Assessment Model -  Heads of Year, SENCo & SMT (Full Day)

Or alternatively select one topic from each group i.e. one from A Positive Learning Environment & one from A Listening School:

  • ‘Managing Conflict in the Classroom: De-Escalation Techniques’ - all staff (Half Day)

  • ‘Anger Management’ - Heads of Year (Half Day)

A school then may choose to take the selected module/s in the same term or alternatively over two or more terms.

In determining which BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT INSET options best meet your school’s present needs, Principals are asked to select a module/s which relate/s specifically to needs/issues identified within the current School Development Plan.
