Home Economics is an integrated subject where the inter-relationships between diet, health, family, home and resources are addressed in both practical and theoetical contexts.
Home Economics is part of the minimum requirement for every pupil at Key Stage 3 and has a significant role to play in helping pupils to prepare for life and work. It provides pupils with opportunities to explore real issues explicitly relevant to real-life contexts which lead to the development of a wide range of transferable skills. Of particular value is the contribution of the subject to the development of skills such as decision making and working with others.
For Home Economics to be relevant in the curriculum it must meet the overall curriculum objectives. These are, developing the pupils as individuals, as contributors to society and as contributors to the economy and the environment.
