Food in Schools

The Food in Schools programme recognises the important role that schools play in contributing to childhood nutrition and to the development of the knowledge and skills necessary for children to make healthier food choices.

The school environment, the attitudes of staff and pupils, as well as what is learnt in the classroom, will all have a major influence on children’s knowledge and understanding of health. If a child is encouraged to enjoy healthy food and drinks early on, it is much more likely that such positive behaviours will remain with them throughout life.

This section provides guidance designed to help schools improve pupils’ nutrition and implement healthier eating and drinking practices.
