Medical Transport

When would travel assistance be available on medical grounds?
Assistance with transport will be provided for eligible pupils of compulsory school age on medical grounds following a recommendation from a Clinical Medical Officer.
 
  • Transport will be provided in the most cost effective manner to the nearest suitable school.

  • Assistance with transport on medical grounds will be provided to the nearest suitable school as defined for transfer procedure purposes.

  • Pupils who transferred to post primary schools prior to September 1997 will have their entitlement protected.

  • Pupils requiring transport assistance on medical grounds, as a result of broken limbs, will be granted transport on receipt of written confirmation from their General Practitioner for a maximum period of six weeks, provided that they are attending their nearest suitable school. Assistance will only be extended at the request of the Clinical Medical Officer.

  • It is a parental responsibility for payment of travelling expenses for a pupil who requires transport from school to attend a medical appointment.
