In what circumstances would refunds be paid?
The Board will consider the payment of refunds to parents in respect of pupils entitled to assistance with home to school transport but who provide transport for their own children in the following circumstances.

Where there is no suitable bus stage within the statutory walking distance of the pupil’s permanent home address.
Where the pupil’s permanent home address is located outside the statutory walking distance of the nearest suitable school, but no Board or public transport is available.
Where the parent requests a refund rather than the annual ticket.

How would refunds be paid?
Payment of refunds will be made in accordance with the Board’s scheme and will be paid on an annual basis.

How much would a refund be?
A refund will not exceed the cost of a sessional ticket.

Is a parent entitled to more than one refund?
Parents will be entitled to one refund per family, irrespective of the number of pupils being conveyed by car.

Is there transport assistance for boarding pupils?
The Board may assist the week-end or term time travel of a boarding pupil based on the fare to the nearest suitable school at which boarding facilities are available.

How would refunds be paid to an eligible pupil for expense incurred before a travelpass was received?
Reimbursement of travelling expenses incurred by an eligible pupil between the time of application for assistance and receipt of an annual travel pass will be made by Translink, Milewater Road, Belfast. Claims will be accepted up to 31 October and will be processed on confirmation of evidence of travel.

Can refunds for previous years be claimed?
Retrospective payments for previous years will not be made.

Refunds will be payable from the commencement of the school year in which the application was made.
